Ordering is not a big deal... the problem without Cantonese spelling is that... spell checkers and machine translators would be affected.

Certain local telecommunication company seems to run their client database with spell checker like this and changing clients' name spelling without notice, giving rise to many trouble (to clients)

According to my knowledge in ACG, I know that when Japanese treat Chinese name, they prefer Mandarin rather than Cantonese. For example, in CLAMP's production:

小狼
Syaoran (NOT Siu Long)

飛王
Fei Wang Reed (NOT Fai Wong)

That is because the Japanese pronunciation system, like that of English, can reproduce sound that is closer to Madarin than Cantonese. Actually I should say Cantonese is hard to be mimic by other language system

...
and the sad fact that Cantonese is lesser known outside Southern China

You are so right - a Chinese airline changed the "English name " (in fact the generally used Hongkong romanisation of the Chinese name) to Chinese pinyin on the pax' boarding pass and he almost missed his flight

Airline too!? WTF...
I'm really puzzled for why would anyone run spell-checking on client's name.

Now I'm also aware that defending Cantonese is more than cultural issue. Defending Cantonese is also defending our names, and our rights to use proper services that require our names.

That's clearly technical mistakes. Simply firing the proofreader suffices.
